Waterford Communities receive a further funding boost with €157,350 CLÁR Funding

Five Waterford community organisations have received a funding boost today with the announcement of a further €157,350 under CLAR Measure 1, according to Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins.

Senator Cummins said “Today’s announcement is on top of the €74,889 which was allocated prior to Christmas to Ballysaggart GAA club and Sliabh gCua/St. Mary’s GAA club, bringing Waterford’s allocation under the 2023 CLAR Programme to €232,239. I’m delighted to have worked with my Fine Gael colleague Minister Heather Humphreys to ensure that all these very worthy projects were supported by the departments CLAR programme”.

CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd Riachtanais) or Funding for Small-Scale Rural Projects is a targeted investment programme which provides funding for small-scale - infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered the greatest levels of population decline. CLÁR is just one piece of the Department’s Rural Development Investment Programme, which provides a package of coordinated and complementary supports for rural areas.

Senator Cummins said “The funding announced today is further evidence of mine and this governments continued commitment to improving community facilities across rural Waterford. It will support five excellent community groups and organisations to improve their facilities and I know the funding will be warmly welcomed by the wider community who will benefit from this investment.

Senator Cummins said “I know there were a number of the organisations in touch with me prior to Christmas when they saw the initial allocation, worried that they had been unsuccessful in their application under the 2023 programme but I assured them that I would work with Minister Humphreys to maximise the level of funding that could be provided and I am delighted that we were able to support seven very worthy projects”.

Senator Cummins concluded by saying “I would like to thank all those involved in putting their applications together, it certainly makes my job easier in lobbying for funding when robust applications of merit are submitted. I also want to also compliment my Fine Gael colleagues in mid and west Waterford who advocated strongly on behalf for their communities for these funding allocations”.
