Two West Waterford clubs have been successful in their applications under the 2023 CLAR programme according to Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins.
Ballysaggart GAA club has been granted €43,839 in funding towards the development of their car park, entrance and landscaping to service the new clubhouse, hall and community Gym. Meanwhile Sliabh gCua/St. Mary’s GAA club has been granted €31,050 for upgrades to the clubhouse lighting car park resurfacing and the maintenance of the running/walking track.
Senator Cummins said “The funding announced today is further evidence of mine and this governments continued commitment to improving community facilities across rural Waterford. The funding will support two excellent clubs to maintain and improve their facilities and I know it will be welcomed by the entire community in both areas”.
CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd Riachtanais) or Funding for Small-Scale Rural Projects is a targeted investment programme which provides funding for small-scale - infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered the greatest levels of population decline. CLÁR is just one piece of the Department’s Rural Development Investment Programme, which provides a package of coordinated and complementary supports for rural areas.
Senator Cummins said “It is important to note that this is just tranche one, I am aware there are eight clubs and organisations which have submitted under this years CLAR programme and I am working with Minister Humphreys to maximise the level of funding that can be provided. Last year there were seven successful applicants and I hope to be able to maximise the pot of funding available for these very worthy projects”.
Senator Cummins concluded by saying “I would like to thank all those involved in putting the applications together, it certainly makes my job easier in lobbying for funding when robust applications of merit are submitted. I also want to also compliment my Fine Gael colleagues west Waterford who advocated strongly on behalf for their communities for these funding allocations”.
