Fine Gael unveil more candidates ahead of Local Election 2024

  • Cllr. Lola O’Sullivan and Richie Hayes selected to run in Tramore/Waterford City West

  • Cllr. Frank Quinlan selected to run in Waterford City South

Fine Gael held two selection conventions for next year’s Local Elections this evening at a very well attended meeting in the Viking Hotel. The meeting was chaired by Tipperary Senator Garret Ahearn.

Commenting following the conclusion of the meeting, Senator John Cummins said “I am delighted to announce the latest Fine Gael candidates for next year’s local elections. In Waterford City South, Cllr. Frank Quinlan will contest his first election, having been co-opted to Waterford City and County Council following my election to Seanad Eireann. Frank is a huge community man and is involved in many different clubs and organisations. He has been doing tremendous work on the Council since taking over the role and works very closely with me on all items in Waterford City South; an area I was honored to be elected for on three occasions”.

“In Tramore Waterford City West, the party has selected long standing Councillor Lola O’Sullivan who has represented the Tramore area with great distinction since 1999. Lola’s record stands for itself, she is deeply embedded in her community and continues to represent her area with great passion and enthusiasm. The party has also selected Richie Hayes for the Tramore/Waterford City West area. As a party, we are delighted to have Richie on board for the local elections next year. He is a passionate Waterford man who wants to give back to the community who have always supported him in his wide-ranging entertainment career. This is a new venture for Richie and I know he is eagerly looking forward to getting out and about meeting people and asking them for their support”.

Senator Cummins concluded by saying “Fine Gael will hold our remaining conventions for Waterford City East, Dungarvan and Lismore in due course. The party has already selected Cllr. Liam Brazil and Cllr. Seanie Power to contest the Comeragh electoral area. As a party we will be putting forward a very strong team of candidates ahead of next years local elections, a team that will work exceptionally hard to represent the people of their area on local issues; and a team that will work in partnership with me and our offices in Waterford City and Dungarvan.

“I want to compliment every candidate who will put their name forward for next years local elections. Local democracy is so important and it takes courage to put your hand up and say that you want to do good and work to the best of your ability to represent the people of your area”.
