Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins has welcomed the news that a special class has been approved for Garranbane National School.
Senator Cummins said "this is really positive news for the entire school community and I want to compliment the principal, staff and parents for advocating strongly for the provision of this class. I have raised this matter with Minister for Special Education and Inclusion Josepha Madigan TD on a number of occasions in recent weeks and I understand that following a visit by the NCSE and the SENO last Friday 7th October 2022, a recommendation to sanction the additional class has now been made. I know this will be welcomed by the entire school community but in particular the parents of students with additional needs.
"I want to thank those that were in contact with me to raise the ongoing issues and to my Fine Gael colleague for acting proactively to resolve it when I brought it to her attention. This is a really positive outcome for all concerned".
