Get to know me

John was first elected to Waterford City Council at the age of 21 and was re-elected to the amalgamated Waterford City & County Council in 2014 and 2019. He has served as Mayor of Waterford on two occasions (2013/14 & 2015/16) and as Chairman of the South East Regional Authority (2013).

John has served on numerous boards and committees during his time in politics including Waterford Airport, Theatre Royal, Waterford Enterprise Board and Waterford & Wexford ETB. On his election to Seanad Eireann in 2020, he was appointed as the Fine Gael spokesperson on Housing, Local Government and Heritage and has served as a very effective member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee.

John studied Physical Education and Geography teaching at the University of Limerick where he received a first-class honours degree. He has taught in a number of secondary schools across Waterford and has been involved with many sporting organisations both as a player and coach.

Married to his wife Inga, John has the energy, experience and passion to represent ALL of Waterford as your next Fine Gael TD in Dáil Éireann.
